Ideas on creating a WordPress Blog

Most personal branding experts suggest that the Web site of your blog "hub" of your brand image.

I chose WordPress for my platform of blog on the advice of some local experts and have also seen it mentioned by many experts as the platform of choice. Naturally you can always consider others.

There are two ways to create a WordPress blog: on their site, or on your own site. I suggest to have your own website because if you host on their site, you are limited to the appearance of your blog and I do not think that you can have widgets all the.

What steps follow you to the creation of your blog on your own Web site?

Book your url
Decide where to host the website
Choose a theme
Choose and customize your plugins / widgets
Advertise the heck out of your new section first step is to decide what will be the name of your Web site. Your name must be in the URL. If your name is taken, as put a hyphen between your first and last name, or perhaps put "meet" at the front, get creative. One of my friends has developed "goto" from its name. Be as creative as necessary, but get your name in there! Reserve your URL.

For hosting, you can go with a big business or locate a smaller local company if you want to really know the people you want to buy. The Chamber of Commerce is a good place to search for local businesses. My only caution here is that they really to have their act together as backups and security. In fact anyone who hosts your blog, I was told that you must have your own backup just in case! A good question to ask is failure how much they had last year, which caused them, and what is the length of the longest. I would also ask their experience with search engine ranking.

Other factors to consider are cost (naturally) and facilitate changes. Ideally, you want to have access to make changes yourself and not pay. You can keep your photo update over time, you can join sites more social networking or other groups and want to mention that, or you may need to delete something or change your contact information. You do want not expensive or long time to get the changes.

I assume that you already know that you will write on. You want your blog entries to be linked, in an area of expertise for you. If you are in the map, writing about piano playing a day and bird watching, the next day, as foreign travel later, your readers do not know what to expect and you'll not people to bookmark or subscribe. You want to create a "suite", this is what personal brand is a question! Therefore be a central theme in topic, or create several blogs on different topics featured.

The layout and graphics of a WordPress blog comes from the "theme". Several themes are available on the web for WordPress. Some are free, and I chose a free to save money. The only caveat with a free theme is that there is probably a link integrated bottom of the page for someone other site Web (the person who wrote that code wants to do something for their work)! If you know someone who has knowledge of personal computers programming they can get rid of that for you if you want. Choose a theme somewhat for the purpose of your blog. I will warn you, you can spend days of hunting down that you want! Don't forget that you intend to keep long (this is your personal brand after all!) to take the time to advance for a you really want to.

One thing that you will immediately see, is that some themes have space for ads. Some people sell advertising space on their blogs to offset the costs of execution. If you are involved in a company that provides advertising banners for you, or you find something on the web that you like and it fits, you would plug those as well as you make no money on that. I chose to find a free advertising space.

Plug-ins and widgets are unlimited! You can have a widget created for virtually any social media site or site information sharing. One thing that you will find is that the widgets that show your latest posts on this site can slow down the loading of your page. Some widgets may also not well fit into your theme. You just play with them. Normally, it is good to have some kind of widget that links to each of your social media sites. You also want to bookmark and share the widget to enable people to easily find the way back and share your messages with others. Some plug-ins that are not anything on your page are also useful as a plug-in for editing comments, one to thank automatically people for comment and for the creation of labels for you automatically. I also have a plug-in for my browser (not blog) which allows me to write and publish in the browser and it gave me more features than the dashboard on the blog admin page.

My favorite widget is a simple text widget. This allows you to connect to any graphic image with a web URL. I have a few things fun with that!

Once you have the custom site, the last step is to advertise it. My blog is the Web site that i list on my profile on all social media sites. I am announcing links to individual posts, but my blog is my central identity. Don't forget that you want your blog to be your hub, because as long as you have your own site, it is one of the sites that you control the content of! Other sites may contain advertising, recommend "related" post that you do not approve or links taking people from other places. They can also close your account, or spend time with too many users online or modify the site so things are not the same. Your site is the only control you.

I hope that you find useful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
