WordPress - what are these Widgets?

Here is a simple definition: a Widget is a small piece of computer code that can be inserted in a web page. This code performs a certain function or leads to a broader application.

Some widgets, you may be familiar with the use would be buttons, pop-up windows, boxes of dialogue, forms, clocks, counters, games, feeds and so on.

Widgets make it easy for non-techies to accomplish something great on our Web sites without much hassle. And WordPress has a lot of available Widgets.

Widgets for WordPress allow you to add tools or the content in the sidebars of your blog. However, it is important that your WordPress theme is widget enabled. Be sure to check before choosing your topic, as some will not allow that you can use the widgets.

Most of the themes built in Widgets such as a calendar, list of categories, the list of archives, text boxes where you can add the code for advertising links or other. If you perform a search on the internet for Widgets, you'll see that there is much more that what was going on with your theme. Some can be fun, others will customize your site.

Don't get confused Plugins and Widgets. Do not forget that the Widgets do something in the sidebar of your WordPress blog. However, plugins, will affect your whole blog. To place an ad in your side bar is done with a Widget. Add clogging "all in one SEO" affect the referencing of your entire blog.

Widgets how should you use? It is very personal, but if you look at lots of blogs, you find that some have exaggerated Widgets. Their sidebars are too cluttered and confusing for the reader. Therefore be wary and to discourage the Widgets. Remember the old adage that "less is more".

Use common sense when making this decision. Use which really corresponds to your blog. Your readers will be back if your site does not shout at them.
