Beyond Magnetic - EP - Metallica
In December 2011, Metallica celebrated its 30-year mark with four nights of unhinged rock mania for fans at San Francisco's famed Fillmore. Each night the band performed a "new" song—a previously unreleased cut from the sessions for its 2008 Death Magnetic album. Knowing how quickly word spread on these tracks, the band released this four-track EP of that material just as soon as those historic shows wrapped up. Not live cuts or demos, these are four fully formed songs from the band's studio time. "Hate Train" kicks things off with a nearly unstoppable pace, furious riffs, and the kind of invective that only James Hetfield can dig up. Bookended by a righteous call-to-arms by the name of "River of Babylon," this EP adds a few more flames to the Metallica inferno.
